According to a new report by Mashable, selfie-related deaths outnumber shark attacks in 2015 so far. Selfies have been responsible for 12 fatalities, while sharks have been responsible for 5 in 2015.
It sounds like a bad joke, but it really isn’t. The deaths should be a reminder to travelers that focusing on a phone screen instead of unfamiliar surroundings is not safe at all. One of the selfie-related deaths was caused by falling, while the next leading cause of deaths involving selfies was being hit or injured by trains. More and more tourists are making headlines because of their dangerous attempts to catch a memorable selfie.
Do everyone a favor and focus on your surroundings first, rather than your selfie taking.
