Prince reigns supreme on the top albums, songs and music videos on iTunes.
You may not be able to stream his incredible volume of hits on Apple Music or Spotify, but it seems as if his fans don’t care, with iTunes purchases rocking Prince’s tunes to the top of the charts.
The Top Songs chart currently shows plenty of Prince on iTunes, just hours after news of his unexpected death at age 57 shocked the world: “Purple Rain,” “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “1999” and “I Would Die 4 U” have taken over the top seven spots. The top four albums on iTunes are currently The Very Best of Prince, Purple Rain, The Hits/The B-Sides and 1999.
Prince’s music videos aren’t as hot a ticket, though, with only “Black Sweat” in the No. 2 spot on the visual music list.
No matter what, this total run on the top spots of iTunes, still the way many people acquire their music these days, proves how important Prince remains.
It might also prove Prince right when he removed all his music from streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify — his estate is making much more from the sales of these digital albums and songs than they ever would from an all-you-can-eat streaming subscription.
