The Salvation Army started the tradition in 1938 after serving donuts to American troops during World War I. Since then, the holiday has been held the first Friday every June.

Stop by your local Krispy Kreme location for a free powdered, filled or hot Original Glazed donut. The promotion, which includes some international stores, & excludes Connecticut. 

What better way to start the weekend than with a fried cake topped with glaze, powdered sugar or icing?
