After what has been one of the wildest election cycles in our nation’s history, Donald Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States.
Speaking at his New York City victory party, the president-elect said that it is “time for America to bind the wounds of division” and “time for us to come together as one.”
Though early polls seemed to be in the favor of Hillary Clinton, with some outlets reporting her chances of beating Trump were upwards of 80% at one point in the evening, he won the election after gaining Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes which helped lead him across the 270 threshold that he needed.
“I promise you I will not let you down,” Trump said.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence also addressed the roaring crowd at the victory party on Wednesday morning saying, “the American people have spoken and the American people have elected their new champion.”
Inauguration for the president-elect is scheduled to happen on the steps of the US Capitol at noon on Jan. 20, 2017.
