Confederate Monument to be replaced with Missy Elliott statue possibly

In 31 states across the United States stand roughly 1,500 Confederate symbols. One resident in Portsmouth, Virginia started a change.org petition in hopes the city council will replace their Confederate Monument with another well-known figure, and you would never guess who!

Change.org offers a lot of different petitions you can support but one in particular aims to gather 35,000 signatures in support of replacing a Confederate monument with another hometown hero who happens to be a Portsmouth, Virginia native. That famous figure is none other than Grammy Award winning rapper, dancer, and record producer Missy “Misdemeaner” Elliott! The Virginia resident has already collected over 3/4 of the target supporters.

For those who dont know, Missy Elliott was born an only child to a power company dispatcher and a welder at Portsmouth’s naval shipyard. She went on to be a platinum recording artist selling over 30-million albums. As the petition says, “Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it.” Hey, at least they have a sense of humor! Now wouldn’t that be something!
