90s teen comedy Sabrina the Teenage Witch gets dark reboot

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a supernatural sit-com starring Melissa Joan Hart that aired for seven seasons on ABC and The WB (now The CW) from 1996-2003.

Entertainment industry magazine, Variety first reported that television network, The CW, will soon air a new one-hour drama based on the original series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, except with a dark twist!

This version being prepped for the 2018-2019 TV season, called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will be a  spinoff of the current CW series Riverdale, which features classic Archie characters.

It reimagines the origin and journeys of Sabrina as a dark coming-of-age story that dabbles in horror, the occult, and witchcraft. The series is described as being similar to horror classics like ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist,’ and will see Sabrina conflicted by her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Who do you think should play the new Sabrina? A lot of celebrities names are being thrown around like Disney stars Sabrina Carpenter, Zendaya, Dove Cameron, Vanessa Hudgens, Rowan Blanchard, Laura Marano, Peyton List, and others like icarly star Miranda Cosgrove and MTV’s Teen Wolf star Crystal Reed.
