Man pays fine in pennies as protest

Have you ever received a ticket and felt you did not deserve it?

Most of us have, but one Michigan man took the infraction to the extreme when he payed the fine in pennies!

After a notice from the city and penalty of $270, Brian McGonegal decided to dwindle his debt $27 at a time by showing up at the Jackson County Court, five minutes before five o’clock when they closed, with 2,700 pennies, ten times. It was his way of protesting the payment due.

The Treasurer refused them and told him he would need to put the pennies in rolls, saying it was not their job to count his money.

Who is right and who is wrong in this case? Do you think it’s fair to pay a fine in pennies? It certainly seems legal!
