The Oscar nominees for 2019 have been revealed!
On the morning of Tuesday, January 22nd the Academy announced the nominees for the best films and performances of 2018.
Two films tied for the most nominations. They were Roma and The Favourite with ten a piece. A Star Is Born and Vice each had eight nominations.
Only five films received a nod for Best Director. Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War, Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, Alfonso Cuarón’s childhood memoir Roma, and Adam McKay’s biography of former Vice President, Al Cheney in Vice. Two snubs for Best Director were Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born and Peter Farrelly for Green Book.
Speaking of Green Book, it was the winner of the Producers Guild of America Awards! That is usually a good indicator of who will win Best Picture at the Oscars. It is part of the mix. Also included in the Best Picture nominees were Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Vice.
Other popular nominees included Rami Malek for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Bohemian Rhapsody and Lady Gaga for Best Actress in A Leading Role for A Star Is Born.
The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 24, and will air live on ABC.
