Tom Petty passed away shortly after being rushed to hospital from cardiac arrest

After being discovered in his Malibu home Sunday night unconscious, inspirational rocker Tom Petty was attended to by medics on the scene who were able to get a pulse going.

Shorty after, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he lost brain activity. The decision was made to take him off life support at that point.

Petty had struggled with heroin addiction in the 1990s which may have caused his early demise at just 66 years old.

Hard to believe, since Petty had just wrapped up a 40th Anniversary Tour in Chicago.
