St. James, the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award in 1992, will be on-hand at the show to sign autographs.  St. James had seven Indianapolis 500 starts in nine years. She qualified sixth in 1994, finished 11th in 1992, and at age 53, was the oldest driver in the Indy 500 field in 2000. St. James held 31 international and national closed circuit speed records over a 20-year period.

St. James has been a major supporter of EVIT’s automotive programs, including Adult Education @ EVIT’s new Classic Automotive Restoration program. Funded in part by a $20,000 grant from the RPM Foundation, the program provides adult students with 310 hours of training in auto restoration, materials handling and safety practices. The program is a mix of classroom lectures, lab and shop activities.

The Car & Motorcycle Show is presented by Adult Education @ EVIT and the Copperstate Mustang Club. The event will include awards, trophies, goodie bags, door prizes and raffles, a bounce house for kids, food vendors and music by EVIT’s radio station, 88.7FM The Pulse.

In addition, EVIT’s Automotive Technologies and Diesel programs at the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main) Campus will be open during the show for visitors who would like to learn more about career training for high school students and adults.

The East Valley Institute of Technology provides over 40 career training programs for high school students and adults at two central campuses in Mesa and branch campuses in Apache Junction and Fountain Hills. Training is tuition-free for high school students. Adult Education @ EVIT provides tuition-based training for adults, with financial aid available for those who qualify.
