Janet Jackson wins ICON Award at Billboard Music Awards 2018

Bruno Mars presented R&B singer Janet Jackson with the ICON Award at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night saying, she is a “powerful woman,” and described her family as “music royalty and the first family of entertainment.”

Jackson is the seventh artist to win the Icon Award, joining Neil Diamond, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Cher. She is also the first black woman to receive Icon Award.

Jackson used her speech to pay tribute to powerful women and all victims of abuse. Jackson included a message on faith healing divisions, thanked her fans and God for giving her the energy to become an artist.

The youngest of the legendary Jackson musical family, 52 year old Janet Jackson gave her first televised performance in nine years at the Billboard Music Awards. She performed a trio of her songs, including “Nasty,” ‘’If” And “Throb.” Surrounded by dozens of dancers and wearing gold thigh-high boots, she showed off her well-known dance skills to get the audience up on their feet.

Jackson has received 18 BBMA nominations throughout the years, winning 10 awards.

Jackson is set to kick off her State of the World Tour on July 8 in New Orleans.

She postponed her Unbreakable Tour in 2017 due to her pregnancy.
