Fun things to do in Arizona this weekend

The Ak-Chin Indian Community will be celebrating Masik Tas all weekend long, Friday December 14th to Sunday, December 16th. Want to see an all ages rock concert for FREE? Special guests include The Gin Blossoms and Vertical Horizon on Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will also be a carnival, rodeo events, live entertainment, food, as well as arts and crafts vendors. Rock out with your socks out at Ak-Chin Circle Field and Arena. It’s Saturday, December 15th from 6 to 10 p.m.

This weekend, Skateland Mesa will be donating 100% of their proceeds to 1 Step Away Foundation. The charity will use the money to buy 200 pairs of shoes for underprivileged kids. For time and day, please call (480) 833-7775.

Friday, December 14th, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m, it’s the Peoria Christmas Tree Contest. The event will benefit the Peoria Unified School District. Enjoy an evening of Christmas carolers, vendor booths, laughter, and the joy of the holiday season. More info at Located at Arrowhead Harley Davidson.

Three downtown Mesa museums are getting into the holiday spirit with free admission and extended hours Friday night December 14th. Our friends at The Arizona Museum of Natural History, i.d.e.a. Museum and Mesa Contemporary Art Museum are participating in the Merry Museums event from 6-10 p.m. No advanced tickets will be available. Museums might distribute timed tickets at the door on a first-come, first-served basis if lines are long.

In addition to an imposing dinosaur sculpture bursting out of its exterior, the Arizona Museum of Natural History (53 N. Macdonald) has approximately 58,000 objects in collections that focus on the state’s natural and cultural history.

The i.d.e.a. Museum (150 W. Pepper Place) aims to spark kids’ imagination and creativity through art exhibitions and science, technology, engineering and math activities.

The Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum (1 E. Main St. in the Mesa Arts Center) is always free but will extend its hours for Merry Museums. While in the area, you can also enjoy holiday-themed activities at the Merry Main Street and 2nd Friday Night Out events, with food trucks, a Christmas market, an ice rink and other activities within walking distance. It’s 6 to 10 p.m in downtown Mesa.

Looking for a little relaxation this holiday season? Seek and ye shall find! It’s the Holiday Jazz and Wine event at Japanese Friendship Garden. From 4 to 7 p.m, Sunday, December 16th, you can indulge in the lush garden landscape and even feed the koi fish. It’s all for the cost of admission which varies from $5-7.
