With the eight pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected Isaiah Simmons, a linebacker from Clemson.
Simmons is coming off a season with 104 tackles, seven sacks and three interceptions. He is also a two time national champion, winning in 2017 and 2019.
After a season in which the Cardinals ranked last in yards allowed and 28th in points allowed, it is clear the team had defense on their mind. During the offseason, Arizona managed to sign LB Devon Kennard, DT Jordan Phillips, and LB De’vondre Campbell. The defense is still a work in progress, but the addition of Simmons will certainly help the team. Especially with defending tight ends, the weakness of the 2019 Cardinals defense.
The Cardinals have to wait until Friday for their next pick in the third round, followed by two fourth round picks, as well as a fifth, sixth, and seventh round picks.
