Arizona sees rise in coronavirus cases amid statewide reopening and testing efforts

Arizona is one of several states seeing a rise in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases amid nationwide reopening efforts.

After reporting hundreds of new cases last weekend, the Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Department of Public Health confirmed Tuesday that the state’s total number of coronavirus cases has topped more than 14,000.

Arizona ranks 23rd among states with the most confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 704 deaths linked to the disease.

While the spike in cases undoubtedly has to do with more people being exposed to the virus due to the state easing restrictions, it could also be related to Arizona ramping up its testing efforts in recent weeks.

Still, the ADHS anticipates seeing more cases of COVID-19 over the course of the coming weeks and is advising the public to continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines for coronavirus prevention.
