88.7 The Pulse presents The Top 88 of 2020

2020 was a good year for music! 88.7 The Pulse is excited to bring you the Top 88 of 2020.

January kicked things off when Selena Gomez released her first album in four years, ‘Rare‘. One of the tracks off that album made our Top 5 of the year! The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards also took place that month hosted by Alicia Keys, who has a song featured on the Top 88 of 2020. The historic winner of the most awards, Billie Eilish, took home five Grammys, including Album of the Year with, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,’ Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Bad Guy”, and Best New Artist, plus one more. She is the first artist to win every major award in the same year since Christopher Cross in 1981. Billie also won Top New Artist and Top Female Artist later in the year at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. Speaking of Billie, Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong also popped into our countdown with a solo song.

Do you remember in February when Demi Lovato performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl LIV in Miami? She slayed it! You’ll hear two appearances from her in this year’s Top 88. Who could forget the multiple award-winning Justin Bieber. He released his fifth album, ‘Changes‘, on Valentine’s Day this year. Of course, many hit singles came from it which we played on 88.7 The Pulse.

By the time March rolled around, a 22 year-old from Texas was poised for his full-length debut album. Called ‘Kid Krow,’ it made Conan Gray the biggest new artist debut of 2020. One of his biggest songs off that effort made it to our Top 88 of the year. Also in March, actor Donald Glover, under his stage name Childish Gambino, released his first album in four years. His first single from that made our countdown.

Just as it began warming up in Arizona in May, Lady Gaga drops her first album in four years, Chromatica. It scored her two tracks in our Top 40 most played songs of 2020. By August, Lady Gaga took home the most MTV Video Music awards of 2020 with five, including Artist of the Year. In November, Gaga won favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist at the 2020 American Music Awards. Talk about prolific!

Summer was in full swing when Taylor Swift released her eighth studio album, Folklore in July. It was announced on social media a day prior to coming out. One song from there and another from her previous effort made it to our Top 88 of 2020. Swift went on to win Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Artist at the 2020 American Music Awards in November. Her song, “Cardigan,” won Favorite Music Video and made our Top 30 of the year.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards took place in October. Post Malone took home more trophies than any other artist this year. He’s got a couple appearances in the Top 50 on our countdown. Billboard’s Top Music Duo/Group, The Jonas Brothers, are featured in three songs on our countdown. Lizzo, who won Top Song Sales Artist, snuck into our Top 15 of the year.

The American Music awards were in November. Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Dan + Shay, and Justin Bieber all had the most awards with three each. Surprise, it wasn’t Billie Eilish who won New Artist of the Year here, it was Doja Cat, who also won favorite soul/R&B artist. She happens to have a couple appearances in our Top 50. Juice WRLD took home Favorite Male Artist for Rap/Hip-Hop. He teamed up with Electronic Dance Music favorite artist nominee Marshmello and made our Top 20 of the year. Favorite male Artist for Soul/R&B, The Weeknd, scored three singles in our countdown. Shockingly, he was snubbed from this year’s Grammys. Even alternative rock sneaks into our Top 88 of 2020 with AMA’s favorite alternative rock artists, Twenty One Pilots. Yes, even K-pop artists BTS, who won Favorite Pop/Rock Group, made our Top 15. How’s this for variety? Dan + Shay, who won Favorite Country Group, made our Top 40.

A whopping 80 music artists made our Top 88 of 2020. Some of them had multiple hits on the countdown.
